Zefix and the cantonal registers

Switzerland’s Federal Office of Justice describes the central and cantonal commercial registers as connected sources of registered business information. Public central-register data is accessible through Zefix. The canton remains useful context when matching a company or following the underlying registration record.

Identity information and financial evidence

Do not treat a Zefix match as evidence of revenue, cash balances, or a payment record. If a Swiss company review requires accounts, directors, signatory details, or ownership relationships, explain those needs before ordering. Assess the documents actually obtained and their dates rather than assuming all financial or beneficial ownership information is public.

Buying through a Swiss trading entity

A buyer may contract with a Swiss trader while goods originate in another country. The trader, producer, and group parent can be different report subjects. Include the Swiss contract party and explain any other entities whose role needs investigating; a report on the factory will not automatically describe the seller’s position.

What can the report include?

Depending on the company and available sources, a report may cover registration, ownership, financial statements, payment information, public records, and a credit assessment. Information is not equally available in every market. Check the company identity, source dates, and qualifications in the delivered report.

Does a Swiss registered office mean production is in Switzerland?

The registered office identifies the entity’s registration location. Tell us where the goods are produced and which business signs your contract if those details differ. Company research and a production-site inspection address different questions.
