New Zealand business credit reports

Review a New Zealand customer, supplier, or distributor with a company credit report. Identify whether you are dealing with a locally incorporated company or a registered operation of an overseas business.

Information to prepare for your New Zealand company check

  • Registered company name
  • Company number or New Zealand Business Number, if supplied
  • Registered office and any overseas parent or branch details

Include the identifiers you have. If the legal entity is uncertain, ask our team before ordering. Do not substitute your billing details for the subject company’s details.

Company type affects financial filing

New Zealand’s Companies Office explains that financial statement filing requirements depend on factors including company size and overseas ownership. The presence of a registered company does not mean every business has the same publicly filed accounts. Check the available information for the specific entity rather than expecting a uniform financial record.

Overseas companies and New Zealand operations

The Companies Office distinguishes financial statements for a large overseas company from additional statements for a large New Zealand business operated by it. If your counterparty is an overseas-registered company, specify the company and the local operation you are researching. Do not automatically treat group figures as local financial results.

Appointing a New Zealand distributor

A producer may use an Australian group’s New Zealand sales operation. Identify the entity on the distribution agreement and give any company number shown there. Ask about directors, ownership, and local accounts if those details matter to your review of the contractual buyer.

What can the report include?

Depending on the company and available sources, a report may cover registration, ownership, financial statements, payment information, public records, and a credit assessment. Information is not equally available in every market. Check the company identity, source dates, and qualifications in the delivered report.

Will every New Zealand company report contain filed financial statements?

No. Financial filing requirements and information availability vary. Ask about the required company and financial period before ordering if your decision depends on particular accounts.
