Keep the razón social and RFC together
For a Mexican supplier enquiry, ask for the full legal company name, often described as the razón social, and the RFC shown in its business documentation. Preserve the Spanish name and legal suffix exactly. A trading brand or English translation can help explain the relationship without replacing the registered identity.
Label the RFC separately from commercial registration information. Your research file should show which number came from which source and which entity it concerns. A tax-registration check answers a narrower question than a company financial review.
SAT’s verification guidance describes checking whether a supplied RFC is registered, including an RFC lookup with a CAPTCHA. That result should not be interpreted as a company credit assessment. SAT: verify registration in the RFC.
Compare identity across four kinds of evidence
Use the table to find the precise mismatch instead of referring generally to ‘different details’. Request an explanation from the supplier and retain the supporting record. Do not ask for tax-account passwords or credentials to perform an identity check.
| Evidence | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Quotation or agreement | Named seller, razón social, address, and any identifiers |
| Invoice details | Issuer name and RFC, with the supplier’s explanation of differences |
| Tax-registration evidence | Exact identifier and scope of the verification result |
| Commercial registration evidence | Legal entity, register reference, and relevant corporate changes |
| Factory details | Site operator and whether it is the same business as the seller |
Example: a brand and a separate invoice issuer
Suppose a supplier’s website uses an export brand, its quotation carries that brand, and the invoice is issued by a company with a different Spanish legal name. Request the legal identity behind the brand and compare the RFC and agreement details. If a separate company issues the invoice, establish its role before deciding which entity to research.
A successful RFC registration check does not resolve every part of that scenario. You still need evidence connecting the invoice issuer to the transaction and clarity about the contractual seller. Keep any manufacturer, trader, or related company as a separately identified participant until the documents establish the relationship.
Prepare a focused Mexican company report request
Supply the razón social, RFC, commercial registration details if available, registered address, website, and any alternative names. Label the factory and delivery addresses separately. State whether the enquiry concerns the seller, manufacturer, customer, or another participant.
If your review requires financial information, specify the entity and accounting period. Check currency and units when figures are supplied: the USD price paid for a report does not set the currency of the company’s accounts. If the identity remains ambiguous, discuss the available documents before purchasing rather than ordering on the basis of the brand alone.
