UAE mainland or free-zone company: checking the right license

Identify the UAE licensing authority, compare the trade license with commercial documents, and resolve mainland and free-zone entity differences.

Identify the licensing authority before searching

A Dubai or other UAE address does not, by itself, tell you which authority issued a company’s license. Ask for the trade license, its number, the issuing authority, the emirate, and any free-zone name shown. Keep Arabic and English names where supplied, without assuming a shared brand means a shared entity.

Begin the check with the authority identified on the document. If the company supplies several licenses, ask which one belongs to the seller or buyer named in your proposed agreement. Keep branch, mainland, and free-zone descriptions attached to the supporting record rather than inferring a structure from an office address.

Use an authority-specific verification service

An official verification service can help match a license record within its own scope. Read the fields returned and retain the date checked. If a search produces no result, review the authority, identifier, spelling, and search coverage before concluding the business is unlicensed.

Ajman Free Zone provides a license-verification form using a license number or company name and a CAPTCHA. It is an example of checking with the named free-zone authority, not a search covering every UAE business. Ajman Free Zone: license verification.

Reconcile the license and the transaction

The worksheet below helps separate a valid identity match from broader financial or contractual questions. Save any explanation of a difference with the documents that support it.

UAE company license review worksheet
FieldQuestion to answer
Issuing authorityWhich emirate authority or free zone issued this record?
Legal name and numberDo the company and license match the agreement?
Document datesWhat issue or expiry dates are shown, and is a later version available?
Business addressIs this the registered, operating, or correspondence location?
Other entitiesIs a separate mainland company, free-zone company, or overseas manufacturer involved?
Financial requestWhich company’s figures and periods are needed for the review?

Example: one brand, two UAE company documents

Suppose a quotation uses a group brand, a contact sends a free-zone license, and the draft agreement names a different mainland company. Ask the contact to identify each entity’s role. Do not attach the free-zone company’s record to the mainland company’s account merely because the names are similar.

Once the contractual company is clear, prepare the report request using that identity and explain the related business as context. A license check does not establish the availability of audited accounts, verify a payment instruction, or determine whether another group company supports the transaction. Ask about essential financial information before ordering, and review any separate arrangement through the appropriate process.

Review UAE company report availability

Provide the authority and license details when checking report options for a mainland or free-zone company.
